Look at that face.
Just look at it.
And this one.
And this one.
Can you tell what I am thankful for? 🙂
Today, December 4th, is like every day… I am thankful for our kitties.
Contrary to how most cats might behave, our cats are the furthest thing from aloof and detached.
They LOVE us.
They want to spend every waking moment we happen to be home with us.
If we watch TV, they sit on us or next to us.
If we get up to use the bathroom, they follow.
If we get in the shower, they paw at the shower door.
If we go to bed, they sleep on top of us. (extra warmth!)
If we’re in the kitchen, they meow for food and roll around on the floor.
If we go downstairs, they race us to the bottom and then once again flop on the floor and roll around.
They are so cute!
They are so much fun to watch play!
They are so snuggly and so sweet!
They are so much fun to take pictures of! 🙂
Pita was named by my friend Kimmie. I asked for help with names and was given the options of “Pepita” or “Kimmie the Kitty” – I chose Pepita.
I always shorten it to Pita, but sometimes I call her Pita-wita, Pita Pocket, Pita Girl, etc…
I got her in May of 2005 from an Animal Rescue in Tyler, TX.
She was my only companion when I lived alone for the first time, and was my constant pillow to cry on when I went through the rough year of 2006.
She is my girl. 🙂
She has always liked to lay on her back like this! 🙂
It was hard for her to adjust to new kitties that forced her to share my love and attention.
But just this morning I took this picture, and for the first time ever she is sleeping on the couch
with the other two kitties right beside her! 🙂
Pumpkin was named after a long delay upon noticing that an entire half of her face is orange. She is considered a “Tri-tabby,” which means she has spots of orange tabby all over her – mixed with grey and brown tabby spots. Plus, Pumpkin is already a pet name, so to speak. – ba, dum – crash! ;D
Pumpkin was adopted from the Parkville Animal Rescue in July of 2010, along with Maizie because the shelter was running a buy one get one deal. 😉
Pumpkin is also often called: Punkin Chunkin (after a recent Modern Family episode), Pumpkin Head, Little Buddha, and Pumpkin Pie Blizzard! 🙂
She is our 100% snuggler! It doesn’t matter if it’s your arm, leg, lap, back, stomach, whatever – she is going to sit or sleep on it as soon as you are holding still…
She is also our “scardy cat” – the slightest noise sends her running, but she always finds her way back. She is sometimes referred to as our Little Buddha because she will eat almost anything. The other two cats want only cat food, but not Pumpkin! She has been known to eat popcorn, whipped cream, queso, and more…. and when we bring out a treat like a can of wet cat food she begins to howl like we’ve been starving her! haha She has a small frame and a big round belly. 🙂

A few months ago… 🙂
Maize was also adopted when Pumpkin was. Her name was given to her by the shelter, and we kept it because we liked it so much! (You don’t even want to know what Pumpkin’s previous name was! It was horrible!) Aside from her real name, we also call her: Maizers, Maizie Girl, and Maizeeeeee. 🙂
Maizie is our “dog” cat. I say this because she is a constant companion, sometimes annoyingly so! As soon as we get home, Maizie runs to the door greeting us with meows and rolling on the floor waiting for a belly rub! She doesn’t just follow us into the kitchen, she climbs into the refrigerator! She doesn’t just follow me when I am doing laundry, she jumps into the dryer, or tries to get into the washer while it fills up with water! She nearly trips me every day because she runs in and out from between our feet as we walk!
Chad is her favorite. If he is home, I barely exist. She LOVES him. She especially likes to lay on the back of his computer chair like it’s some kind of tree limb while he plays video games! She is also our outdoor kitty. She loves to go outside, but we only let her on the deck unless we’re holding her… The shelter told us she might have part Bengal in her. She has Bengal-like markings and is HUGE for her age. Pumpkin is older than her, but Maizie is obviously bigger than she is, including bigger paws, bigger bones, bigger skull and large ears! She is just muscular and thick. 🙂
Here is Maizie and Pumpkin as kittens:
Despite their similar markings, they are not related by blood… but they love each other! 🙂

After several days being alone in a one room apartment, I have come to appreciate having a pet so much more.
Having cats who love you and love snuggling with you is just the best thing ever.
I am so thankful. 🙂

How about you? Do you have a pet you’re thankful for? Did you ever own a pet that you loved this much? 🙂
